Like Edward, Bella etc?
Are Twilight names popular for babies now?
Isabella has been ranked #11 or above since 2003, before the Twilight books came out. Bella on it's own has been in the top 400 names since 2003
Edward has actually declined in popularity since the Twilight books. It used to be a Top 100 boys name from the 1880s - 1990s and has dropped out of the Top 100 after 2003, and was ranked #145 last year
Until the movie came out I had never heard of Twilight. I think most people who read these books are teens, who shouldn't be having babies in the first place.
Reply:lol ugh I feel sorry for the kid who gets stuck with a Twilight name (I don't know if you've read the last book, so sorry if this spoils it for you, but can you imagine Renesmee catching on as a popular name?! hahaha).
I think a lot of names in Twilight were becoming popular anyway before the books, because a lot of them are old-fashioned and that's so the 'it' thing right now (Edward, Esme, Isabella especially, Jasper).
I don't think the Twilight series is classic enough though to actually justify parents naming their kids after them (I'd consider Harry Potter to be enough of a cultural icon to do so, but not Twilight)... unless their parents are like fourteen and Twilight is as much as they've ever read in their lives.
Reply:Edward, Bella, Alice, and the other human names (Mike, Jessica, Tyler...) have always been common. The other names like Emmet, Esme, Carlisle, Rosalie, and Jasper aren't very popular names for kids even now. The werewolves' names are still common. Jacob is actually one of the top names. Sam, Seth, Leah, Jared, and Paul are all common. Embry and Quil aren't very popular. I am not sure many of the targeted audience for Twilight would not be having kids now, but the names might be more popular sooner!
Reply:I don't think they are twilight names persay they are all very old fashioned names which is a trend on its own right now, and for moms who have read the book sometimes may go oh I really like that name. I named my son Emmett but it wasn't after the character it was because I love the name, I considered Jasper as well. Aside from Renesmee most of the names were already popular or known significantly before the release of the books/movie
Reply:Some of them have always been popular (ex. Edward) but, I certainly think some of these names are going to be more popular.
What people need to understand, it's not just teens but, it's also adults who are obsessed with the books. SO there are certainly people out there who would or maybe even have named their child after one of the Twilight characters.
Reply:Isabella is one of the most popular girls names in this day America and Edward has been much more popular before as in my family but you do still see a few of them as kids around now Rosalie, and Jasper are not as popular now but Alice was popular a long time ago but with Eric, Michael, and Jessica those are popular.
Reply:Bella was very, very popular a couple years ago, but became over-used, but of course, it's still a beautiful name.
Edward will always be classic, traditional. I think it's a little old-fashioned for current times, but if used because of a special meaning (grandfathers name), then I wouldn't worry about it.
Reply:They are but I think even though the books are amazing its a bit obsessive to name your child after them...
,,,unless you just really like the names and feel inspired.
Hope I Helped :)
Reply:You see them all the time on here, but it may be that they're just tween girls obsessed with Twilight.
