How many of you chose baby names before your baby was born?

With each, I've had some names in mind, but I can't imagine trying to name a baby until I've seen them.

I still have a mental image of my husband reading name books in the birthing room- three times over! But once we've seen them, it's been pretty obvious to us which names apply to which baby :)- it has never taken us more than a day or two to decide for certain, and we like to get a little idea of who this little person might be or look like before we pick a name.

Names are important!

The only reason I know the name of the one I'm expecting now, is because due to a centuries-old family tradition regarding first sons, the name is not even up for debate. He's due in a few weeks and I'm still trying to decide if I'll even give him a middle name.

ETA- in the US they try to tell you you have to have a name before leaving the hospital, and they really pressure you, but really- you don't. You just have to refile the birth certificate once you decide. The only reason I know this is because we don't actually 'name' our children for up to eight days after birth (8 for a boy, the next Saturday in the synagogue for a girl, whenever the next Saturday is.) I remember the first baby, asking my mother if she liked her name when we were home with the baby and she was about four days old. She said "I'm sure I would, if I knew it"- I forgot we hadn't told anyone but ourselves and the baby!

How many of you chose baby names before your baby was born?
My husband and I did. and when we found out what the baby was (girl) we called her by her name from that day on. I felt when she was born I already had a huge bond with her because I talked to her by her name the entire time. She also had a few nicknames before she was born. There isn't a doubt in my mind that my daughter is a Kadence. She is sure one of a kind and dances to the rhythm of her own drum (or however that goes).

I also already have names picked out for my future children.
Reply:well my oldest was named in the hospital because his dad came to his senses and realized the name he picked out was ridiculous. (kayon allen) we did austin christopher.

My second son was named by my mom when I was like 6 month a long. (we had no name decided) she was talking with a friend and she just said conner and then wait the baby is not named but it worked out real nice conner lee edward is what he was named. he is a conner!
Reply:I think I would probably choose the name before hand, I actually dont plan on having any of my own although I may adopt when Im older, sometimes I wonder what names I would choose. It changes quite a lot, but I would definitely go for something non traditional and zesty for a girl and something interesting for a boy. My own name is quite traditional and I have always disliked it!!!

Maybe Jessica for a girl or Zoe (in my mind these are non traditional when compared to names like hannah and emily) and Zane for a boy or Steve which is pretty traditional but I still like it.
Reply:we had 2 names ready when my oldest was born, my daughter was named in my 5th or 6th month (as soon as we knew the gender), and my younger son was named in my last trimester although it wasn't final until he was born ( daddy wanted to be suprized, but I wanted to know. I found out and hid the ultrasound pic from him)
Reply:We chose our daughters name almost 3 years before she was born, we didn't have a boys name so it was destiny really.

On the same ward a girl had a baby %26amp; for the couple of days we were in hospital she just couldn't think of a name, i'd love to know what she decided in the end.
Reply:We did not find out the sex of our baby until he was born but we chose a boy name and a girl name. When I found out I was having an emergency C-Section on Christmas Day, I wanted to Change our boys name to Christopher Nicholas and our girls name to Noelle but stuck with our original names and ended up with a baby boy named Jayden Matthew
Reply:we had names for both of our boys picked out before they were born, but when they were born the just didn't look like the names we picked out, so the came home with different names, our families we very confused. but i think it was an important part of the pregnancy for my husband.
Reply:my son's name, Samuel Barrett, we had picked out as soon as we found out we were having a boy.

with my daughter though, Grace Rebecca, we didn't have her name picked out until two days after she was born, they threatened to not let us leave the hospital until we picked a name, lol.
Reply:Yes we had 2 names we liked and we kept changing our mind between the two(we knew we were having a boy) when I was near the end of my pregnancy and we finally decided I went out and bought a name plate for his door and it made it very real! If we have another boy he'll probably have the second name!
Reply:me and hubby had names chosen for both our kids well before they were born,we like being organised. We actually had a boys name picked out before our son was even conceived as we decided to name him after my grandfather and brother.
Reply:be careful, you dont want to "rouin" or "use" your first choice name too early in case things don't work out ( happened to us) 2nd try we just used "baby z" or egg silly nick names till we got to the third trimester.
Reply:i did with my baby and glad i did cause i named him Alex Mateo after his heritage
Reply:My husband %26amp; I chose my sons name before we found out the sex.We had a girl name %26amp; a boy name.I loved the name so much that I knew I wouldn't change my mind.
Reply:We chose our boys name before he was born he is Alfie. Called him that while still in the womb and luckly it suited him when he was born cause he is a right cheeky chappy. lol
Reply:I have no children and the odds are high that it will never happen but I often think of names for a baby I might someday have.
Reply:I would wait to see the baby Cranberry

His/Her character would influence my choice of name
Reply:i picked my sons name from when i found out it was a boy.. before that i had a girls name lined up so yeah.
