Is it me or are people just pulling baby names out of thin air?

What happened to names that, while not necessarily, common or overused, have some semblance of familiarity and tradition?

It is my opinion that people are trying to be too creative. Perhaps they could satistfy their desire to be creative by going back and dusting off some hidden gems. Please don't try de novo synthesis when it comes to names. It''s a disservice.

So what do you guys think? Am I full of crap, or do I have a point here?

Is it me or are people just pulling baby names out of thin air?
You have a very good point!

I went to my nephews school to have Thanksgiving lunch with him and this very obnoxious friend of his would not leave us alone. He was also super mad because I didn't understand that his name was J'Adrian. I'm sorry little one I have never heard that before- sounded like Adrian to me!
Reply:You do have a valid point!

as per the "Perhaps they could satisfy their desire to be creative by going back and dusting off some hidden gems" comment, I actually did that myself, and still people complain that I am being to "Out There!" I chose perfectly acceptable names that I actually did some research on, and yet I was "Trying to hard".

Point is; no matter what, someone will always have something to complain about. "to long, to short, to old, to new, to weird, to normal" There will always be people that love one name, where majority will hate it and vise verse.

Nobody will ever be satisfied. EVER. So, lets leave it at that, still ask for advice, and share opinions, but when you come across you cant help but want to scream, just ignore the question and move on! is hurting someones feelings really worth the 2 points?
Reply:I think you have a point, which is why everyone in my family is named after someone else, by a first name, last name, maiden name, etc.

Like my first name is my great-great-grandmother's maiden name. Nobody else in my family has it, but it's still kind of a tradition, kept in the family, you know?

I think you have a very valid point though, it's like people just say lets take a bunch of random letters, put them together, and we've got a name!
Reply:You have a wonderful point !!

My sister recently had a baby ! Guess what his name is ? Smythson !!

I'm not joking, either.....so just to make a point.....I'm not full of crap either lol :)

It gets more ridiculous with each baby born.....It's kinda of sad, really ! And my sister thinks she being creative by naming her son Smythson Zachary (: UGGHHHH .... is it just me or is that name really ugly??

Great point...Great question :)
Reply:it might get to the point where people will start dropping items on the floor and whatever sound it makes will be their childs name....lol....i'm j/p but some names are ridiculous but there are named that actually mean something to both of the parents that fit the child.
Reply:Oh, you have a point! I've come to the conclusion that people just pick a random number and then select that amount of letter out of a hat and 'viola' you've got a name!

My friend's son is called: Tavien (I don't even know how to say it..)
Reply:I agree. The made-up names with random letters thrown in are just tacky to me. I guess in a way that's a good thing, because the more those names are used the less kids out there will share a name with my children.
Reply:I completely agree with you. People have forgotten about the meanings of names and the simple fact they are naming another human being. People thinking they are being creative %26amp; unique but ending up looking foolish.
Reply:I think it is good for people to express their creativity in their child's name as long as it isn't crazy and over the top. I love the name Ailee (pronounced ay-lee) and it isn't that common.
Reply:I think that it depends on the name. Some are actually really good. But I do agree with you in a lot of ways. But as I said it depends on the name.People can name thier kids what they desire.
Reply:you have a point, i totally agree with you, i mean Nevaeh, Zuma, Apple, Sunday???? come on people
Reply:Totally agree with you on this...It makes me LAUGH when some say "What do you think of this name"

FOR GODS SAKE PARENTS!! HAVENT YOU GOT MINDS OF YOUR OWN!!
Reply:You have a valid point.
Reply:you have a point.

I mean come on, Zuma, what the hell was she thinking
Reply:anyone can name their kid whatever they want. if they want to be creative they can
Reply:very good point. some of these names are the stupidest things ive ever seen
Reply:its not just you ...you have a point i mean what kind of name is apple or knox?
Reply:No, you don't have a point. Everyone has different preferences. Let people name their babies what they want. Get a life.
