What do you think???
And what are your favorite names?
Best answer gets 10 points.
What do you think about these baby names?
Claudia - I absolutely LOVE this name, I always have. My only hesitation in using it is that the meaning is "lame". I think Claudia Rose is one of the most beautiful combos on the planet.
Ruby - I like this name but it feels very young and old to me, like it doesn't fit a woman from her mid 20s to 40s. Very strange, but true.
Audrey - I have fallen back in love with this name recently. I deal with the public and noticed a plethera of rude Audreys. But then my friend named her daughter Audrey Elizabeth and she is so sweet she redeemed this beautiful name for me.
Ofelia - I see a lot of "feel ya" jokes in her middle school years but think Octavia is a beautiful alternative. Still couldn't see myself using either of these names though.
Dahlia - I spoke to a Dahlia on the phone yesterday and noticed the name has a presence. You can't help but notice it. It is rare and gorgeous.
Athena - Naming your child after a Greek goddess sets the bar a little high. She had better be beautiful or she will feel overwhelmed by her name. I think the name is lovely but would never use it myself.
Lucille - I like it even though I immediately think of Lucille Ball. I slightly prefer Lucinda, but couldn't use either of these names myself.
Amelia - I prefer Amelie, Amelia will always be Amelia Bedelia to me.
Shaun - I like this name okay. Like it, but don't love it. I like this spelling much better than Sean.
Jacob - Way too common these days for me.
Emile - Looks too girly for a guy.
Daniel - Love this name in its full form but cannot stand the nn Danny.
Sonny - It sounds so young, like Junior.
Brandon - I like this name. It is a good choice, familiar but underused.
My favorites from your list are Claudia, Audrey, and Daniel.
My favorites not on your list are girls: Lorelei, Hazel, Genevieve, Iris boys: Hunter, Matteo, Gavin, and Slade.
Reply:I LOVE all the girl's names, but Lucille and Ofilia are my least favorites of the group. Lucille still reminds me of Lucille Ball and a bad country western song, and Ofelia is a misspelling of a Shakespearean character, Ophelia. I think I like Ruby and Amelia best. I like all of the boys names a lot, too, except Sonny. Don't care for that one. I still think of Sonny and Cher's Variety Show in the 70's. Sonny Bono annoyed me to no end. Shaun I prefer spelled Sean as the phonetic spelling always looks illiterate to me. Jacob is one of my favorite boy's names, but it is also everyone else's as it has been holding #1 or close to it steadily for the last 15 years. I know about 10 boys named Jacob--it's ridiculous. Daniel is another great name that is worn out with popularity. Too bad we can't stop everyone else from using our favorite names as soon as we discover them! ;)
Reply:Ruby is good for a middle name
Audrey is a beautiful and classy name
Athena is unique but still classy
Lucille would also be a good middle name
Amelia is a adorable!!
Claudia, Ofelia, and Dahlia...I'm not a big fan of these
How about Amelia Ruby, Audrey Lucille, or Athena Lucille?
Shaun is a good strong name
Jacob is a great name but very very common
Daniel is a good, classic name
Brandon is a little less common and still a good name
Emile and Sonny...I'm not liking for a boy
How about Shaun Jacob, Brandon Daniel, or Daniel Shaun?
Reply:Claudia- Not keen at all
Ruby- nice but if you want a popular name then don't go for it
Audrey- Old fashioned
Ofelia- It's ok, I wouldn't personally use it and I always spell it Ophelia
Dahlia- Oh no not nice
Athena- I don't like it
Lucille- Reminds me of that Kenny Rogers song
Amelia- naughty Amelia Jane in the Enid Blyton books
Shaun- Trashy hard man
Jacob- Classy and sweet, nice choice
Emile- Sounds a bit girly to me
Daniel- Lovely name very traditional
Sonny- I don't like this at all
Brandon- Ok but I wouldn't use it
Reply:I really love a lot of your choices. I'm going to split them up into groups.
Girls:
My favorites:
Audrey- Very cute and sophisticated. I love this name.
Dahlia- I think this name is just so beautiful! I really love this. Good choice.
Ofelia- but only if you spell it correctly: Ophelia. Then it is really gorgeous and exotic sounding.
Lucille- Very cute, and her nickname could be Lucie.
My least favorites:
Claudia- I find this name somewhat pretentious sounding. Plus, it might sound OK for a grown woman, but it's a little too sophisticated for a young girl or a baby.
Ruby- I used to like this name, but now I find it over-used.
Athena- I'm really not a fan of giving your kids mythical or goddess names or anything like that. They usually sound strange, but not in a good way.
Amelia- I don't dislike this name, but it's not my favorite.
Boys:
My favorites:
Shaun- However I ONLY like this name if it is spelled Sean. That is the correct, traditional spelling of this name. Shaun and Shawn are just variations that don't look classy (sorry!). However, if it is spelled Sean, it is a beautiful, masculine name for a boy and I love it.
Brandon- I really like this name, but I think I prefer Bradon. Both are nice, though.
Daniel- Another favorite of mine. Classic, beautiful, very strong and masculine. Just don't call him Danny, because that spoils the name.
My least favorites:
Jacob- I don't dislike this name, but it's a little too popular for my liking. I feel like every other little boy I meet is named Jacob or Jake.
Emile- I don't find this name very masculine. It's almost kind of sissy, even though I hate to say that. I really don't like this one, sorry.
Sonny- I have always hated this name (sorry) and I always will. It's just rediculous to me. You wouldn't name your kid Moony would you?
I'm sorry that I was a little harsh, but I kind of wanted you to understand what would be going through a lot of people's heads when they heard these names. Some of them are really lovely, though. My favorites are Sean, Daniel, Audrey and Ophelia (although I also love Dahlia). GOOD LUCK!! HOPE I HELPED!!
Reply:Claudia sounds a bit old to me, sorry
Ruby I love
Audrey, sorry but that's an ugly name
Ofelia is spelt Ophelia
Dahlia is okay
Athena is okay
Lucille sounds like Lucy gone wrong, sorry
Amelia is lovely!
Ruby Amelia or Amelia Ruby
I prefer the spelling Sean to Shaun
Jacob is awesome
Emile is okay
Daniel is great
Sonny is a bit odd
Brandon is okay
Jacob Daniel or Daniel Jacob
x

I also really like Ofelia. Like in Pan's Labyrinth! I fell in love with the name.
And for the boys, I like Shaun, Emile, and Jacob best.
I really like the spelling for Shaun - all the other ways annoy me.
As for Emile and Jacob, I think Emile Hirsch (YUM) and Jacob Black. (Oh shut up, we've all read it). I still really like them.
So, good choices. I like that you didn't have some stupid "unique" names. However, I think you overused the -ia, especially with Dahlia and Amelia.
Reply:I quite like Claudia, Athena and Amelia. I like Ruby as well, but i find that half the people i know consider this a dogs name.
I like all the boys names except Sonny and Emile. Probably like brandon the best.
I usually like names that are either quite pretty or that have unusual or cool spellings. I find it a whole lot easier to come up with girls names though!
Reply:I love Audrey, Dahlia, and Amelia for girls
I don't really care for any of your boys' names... they kind of sound 80's/90's to me. What about something a little more masculine? Consider Grant, Luke, Cole, Graham, or Drake.
